Exploring the Lives of the
Women Poster Designers
of the WPA

what happens when no one remembers their stories...

For my MFA thesis, I have researched the women poster designers of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Many of their stories are untold. The initial research has focused on three specific individuals, Vera Bock, Katherine Milhous, and Dorothy Waugh.

I am a graduate student at the University of Baltimore, working on my MFA in Integrated Design. This website, in addition to a physical exhibition on the campus of the University of Baltimore, is one part of my thesis researching women poster designers of the Works Progress Administration(WPA).

exhibition

The exhibition highlighted three of the women poster designers of the WPA: Vera Bock, Katherine Milhous, and Dorothy Waugh. The exhibition showcased images, books, posters, illustrations, and additional design work. The objects displayed were representative of the design work these three women created throughout their lives, not simply during the WPA years.
